The City wanted to create more than a traditional tree lighting. As the culminating moment of a community festival celebrating holiday traditions from around the world, the opening ceremony needed to bring thousands of guests together in one memorable shared experience.

Rather than simply illuminating the tree, the ceremony was designed as a theatrical opening spectacular. Music, narration, and lighting built anticipation before a live countdown led by the Mayor culminated in the holiday reveal. As the tree illuminated, synchronized lighting and snowfall transformed City Hall Plaza into a celebration that officially launched the holiday season.
